Banchan

As I sit and ponder about what foods might be good for my healing throat, I was brought back to the lovely Korean side dishes that make up banchan. From my understanding, banchan is meant to be shared by those at the table and be devoured in it’s entirety. Refills are totally cool, so you don’t have to hide your excitement or desires if you conquer the kimchi too fast…which has been known to happen. Besides kimchi (which I like spicy), I love the cool refreshing flavour of bean sprouts and the spicy bite of garlic stems (pictured). On the other side of the spectrum, I haven’t quite developed a taste for pickled/spicy squid..

So, is there a dish I’m missing, a must have banchan, or maybe something you can’t stand..basically, what is your favourite/least favourite banchan?
