One of the many gems I found during my Chicago trip was Asado Coffee roasters up in Lake View. On my last morning in town, I walked past the beautiful Wrigley Field in search of this roaster I kept hearing about. What I found was a heart warming proprietor and an excellent shot of espresso. Roasting only a few hundred pounds of coffee each week, the attention to detail in this shop seems to only be equaled by the heat. WHOA! With the roaster sitting next to the tiny, bar style seating area, it gets toasty if you stay for a cup. In a place this small, I’m sure they are bound to be roasting any time you go. After all, you gotta roast to sell the beans.
I brought back a bag to use as espresso and it was a treat. Exactly what I want out of a bean. Beautiful notes of chocolate and bourbon with a full body finish. If you are ever in Chi-Town, see if you can stop in. It’s not flashy, but damn it’s good.
